About Us
After graduating from Oklahoma State University, College of Veterinary Medicine in 2002, we moved to Connecticut and migrated east of the River. This led us to work at Portland Veterinary Hospital, allowing us to get to know you and your pets. You welcomed us, and we knew that we did not want to work anywhere else. We purchased the hospital in 2015 from Dr. Olson & Dr. Nunez, and now as the the owners of Portland Vet, we look forward to strengthening our commitment to serve you, your pets, and the community.

Dr. Christine Gustavson was born in Long Beach, CA though grew up in Arizona. She had numerous animals including sheep, goats, pigs, cow, horses, chickens, & of course, dogs and cats. She earned a Zoology degree from Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, before moving to Oklahoma to pursue her doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. There she met Dr. Jon. They moved to CT after graduation in 2002 to begin their career as small animal veterinarians. She enjoys surgery and all aspects of running a small town veterinary hospital, especially getting to know and helping those in her community. Dr. Christine and Dr. Jon and three kids, including a set of twins. She enjoys playing & watching sports, spending time with family, and spending time doing almost any outdoor activity. She also enjoys photography and designing and building things.

Stephanie was born in PA and moved to CT when she was nine. She began working in the veterinary field as a kennel attendant at 16 years old. She continued in the animal field by graduating from UCONN with a Bachelor's degree in Animal Science and also riding horses. She is married with 2 kids and has lived in Portland for numerous years. She has three house cats she adopted named Mickey, Minnie, and Mauri. She enjoys reading, spending time with family and volunteering at the Connecticut Draft Horse Rescue. Stephanie excels as one of our surgical technicians with a specialty in dentistry.

Michelle joined PVH in November 2015. Born and raised in Portland she started her love for pet care at an early age where she worked her way up at Pieper Olson Veterinary Hospital starting in the Kennel and moving up to Reception where she settled and found joy working with both the pets and their owners. In her free time Michelle works closely with rescue organizations down south to help facilitate the rescues of special needs pets. Michelle also enjoys analyzing online shopping shows, getting out in nature and working on her Bee Colony. Michelle also has two adorable pets, her sweet but sassy terrier Peaches her tripod cat named Yummy and her little Quail colony.
